“I love my 789RL. It’s one of the most beautiful sounding, best looking, versatile and durable horns I’ve ever played. With the 789RL, my upper range slots with little to no effort. It also allows my sound to flow smoothly and freely through each register of the horn.”~ Drew Anderson

Drew Anderson, is a NYC based Jazz trumpeter, composer, and bandleader. He has performed with historic Jazz artists - the late Randy Weston, Candido de Guerra Camero, Reggie Workman, and Charles Tolliver - as well as with vanguard contemporaries like Ulysses owens Jr., Jerome Jennings, Christopher McBride, Omar Hakim, and Endea Owens. He has performed at The Jazz Standard, Small’s, Minton’s, NJPAC,the National Jazz Museum of Harlem, and at internationally-celebrated venues like Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola in New York and Sculler’s in Boston. Drew is a versatile musician, appearing with the artist Solange - at the Guggenheim Museum, Panorama Festival, AfroPunk, Dave Chappelle’s Radio City Music Live, and Jay-Z’s Made in America Festival - as well at the Kennedy Center with Sun Ra’s Arkestra.

It all began for Drew when he was given a trumpet at the age of 6. In 2008 his father, Ashby Anderson, Jazz pianist, composer, and educator founded the Richmond Youth Jazz Guild. This music education program catapulted Anderson’s improvisational skills and love of Jazz. At 12, Drew was riffing alongside Trombone Shorty and learning from the late Frank Foster. By 14, he had an audience of Jazz giants like Quincy Jones and Wynton Marsalis. Drew’s apprenticeship in Jazz continued as he earned coveted scholarships to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston for three consecutive summers. While attending these summer intensives, he developed under Jazz musicians like Terri Lyne Carrington, Phil Wilson, and Tiger Okoshi. From 2012 to 2018, Anderson received private instruction from professional Jazz trumpet players: Wynton Marsalis, Cecil Bridgewater, Jimmy Owens, Marcus Printup, and Charles Tollivar. Additionally, he received two years of classical lessons from trumpeter, Rodney Marsalis at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia.

Drew is a graduate of The New School of Jazz and Contemporary Music with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. He earned his degree through a full-tuition scholarship. Anderson has experience leading his own ensemble, The Newtet. Under his leadership the Newtet has performed regularly in NYC, including a weekly Jam Session at the Sound Bite Restaurant, Times Square Music Festival, Union Square Lunch Concert Series, and Chelsea Music Hall - with the Soul in the Horn music movement.
